Firearms Registration

All applications for the issuance of an initial or duplicate Firearms Purchaser Identification Card (FPIC); Handgun Purchase Permit are now submitted via the Firearms Application and Reporting System (FARS)  located on the New Jersey State Police website (www.njsp.org). You will need to enter “NJ0020500” as the agency ORI Number when prompted. Click the INSTRUCTIONS button for detailed instructions for submitting your application.

Once your application has been accepted, it will be forwarded to the Carlstadt Police Department for background inquiries and approval by the Chief of Police for issuance.

All Firearm Purchaser Identification Cards will be issued to the applicant in hard paper format by the Carlstadt Police Department.

Effective October 1, 2020, all Handgun Purchase Permits and Multi-Handgun Purchase Exemptions will be issued in the form of an electronic permits (e-permits) directly to the applicant. E-permits will be valid for 90 days but will be automatically renewed for an additional 90 days if the permit has not been used within the initial 90-day period. 

Please note that walk-ins are not allowed nor will they be accepted. All applications must be submitted electronically via the FARS portal. Once your application has been successfully received by the Carlstadt Police Department, you will receive email confirmation from the detective assigned to your application.
