The Carlstadt Police proudly provides an internship for students enrolled as juniors or seniors in a college or university or in a post-graduate program. Interns must be currently enrolled through their respective university or college in an internship program or independent study class. This requirement may be waived by the Chief of Police for those students enrolled in a two-year program attending their second year on a case-by-case basis.
Interns will be provided with orientation training to acquaint them with personnel, policies, and procedures of Carlstadt Police Department. In addition, interns will learn about the many operational components of a municipal law enforcement agency, such as:
• Table of Organization
• Legal Authority
• Fiscal Controls (Budget / Purchasing / Audits)
• Media Relations (Press Releases / Social Media)
• Agency Equipment
• Agency Records
• Internal Affairs
• Training
• Personnel Management
• Police Operations
• Investigations
• Property & Evidence Handling
• Detentions
• Criminal & Motor Vehicle Law
Interns may participate in a basic training program, which may include a ride-along
program. This training will identify what is expected of the intern while on duty.
Interns shall receive position-specific training to ensure they have adequate knowledge
and skills to complete tasks required for the position they are assigned to when so assigned
All training will be coordinated through the designated intern coordinator and tailored to meet the individual intern’s needs.
