Message From Your Police Chief

On Thursday June 11, 2020 a peaceful protest march was held in the Borough in support of the movement against all forms of racism, social injustice and police brutality.  I would like to thank the organizers and participants of the march for their assistance and cooperation in conducting this peaceful event. All of us at the Carlstadt Police Department condemn all forms of racism, prejudice and police brutality.  The tragic and unjust death of George Floyd was nothing short of a criminal act.  We sincerely sympathize with the family, friends and community of George Floyd.  This disturbing event is not a reflection of our Police Department.  We will never tolerate any level police brutality nor excessive force.

After the peaceful march it was brought to my attention that an appointed-member of the Borough volunteer Board of Health used his personal social media to make racist, and threatening comments to participants of that event.  This issue was immediately addressed by the Carlstadt Police Department and the Governing Body.  As said above, the Carlstadt Police Department condemns and stands against all forms of racism and prejudice.

Training of Law Enforcement Officers in New Jersey has always been, and will always be, an utmost priority.  Through the guidance of our Attorney General and his Excellence in Policing Initiative, Law Enforcement Officers in New Jersey receive the best and most advanced training possible.  This training will not only continue but it will increase and advance.

Your Police Department is committed to your protection, safety and well-being.  Through the years, we have had a great relationship with our residents and know that will continue.  This year we were planning on expanding on our Community Policing Program by instituting new programs such as, “Coffee with A Cop” and providing a Home Security Assessment Service.  We were also excited that we would continue and expand on proven programs such as Law Enforcement Against Drugs, National Night Out Against Crime, Project Medicine Drop, as well as our Intern and Junior Police Academy programs.  Unfortunately, due to the current health crisis, many of our programs are on hold, but will return bigger and better.

Rest assured, the officers of the Carlstadt Police Department have always been, and will always be committed to serving our residents and visitors with respect.
